One day full of colours, charm and imagination at GIARDINI SIGURTA’

Parco Giardino Sigurta’, in Valeggio sul Mincio and a few km far from Peschiera is  certainly a marvel to behold while staying at the bed and breakfast I Costanti.  

One of the 5th most wonderful parks in the world, Parco Giardino Sigurtà, 560.000  square mts  green area,  was once  extraordinary garden of Villa Maffei  and was  at first designed  by one of Andrea Palladio‘s pupils, called Il Pellesina. 

In the 19th  century it  became  Napoleon the 3d  ‘s headquarter, but it is  mainly  thanks to Carlo Sigurta’  and  his nephew Enzo and to their lovely and meticulous care and  love that  we  can admire  such a  unique  beauty  today. They turned those  ancient dry hills  into green  lands by drawing  waters  from the river Mincio and  designed the first prototype of the park.

Reasons to visit Parco Giardino Sigurta’

The park is really worthwhile visiting : such beautiful landscapes and sceneries  can actually make  you feel  rare  and unique  emotions, the direction of the park  organizes  lots of interesting events  and happenings through the year, you can enjoy the  miracle of seasons and  widen your knowledge of rare species  of plants and flowers.    

The Miracle of the five  Big Blooms  

You’ll be  mainly delighted  by the five  big  blooms alternatively  changing season by season offering the visitors wonderful  scenes of  different bright colours; in spring  you can see Viale delle Fontanelle  full of  perfumed Iris, in  april,   hundreds of tulips will  give  you energy and strength with their shocking colours, red  and  yellow,  from the end of may  Viale delle Rose will communicate to you a sense  of joy with its  fully flowered  blooming roses and  from June  you  can  admire the bright limpid waters of the 18 little lakes at  the “Giardini acquatici”  all spotted by red and   yellows  rare  water lilies.   In September when Asters bloom everything looks like  a huge blue sea. Here  some of the rare plants  you can observe  at the park: CANNA INDICA BRILLANT, RED WATER LILIES ESCARBOUCLE AND YELLOW WATER LILIES COLONEL WELCH AND the MARLIACEA CHROMATELLA which decorates the old castle of the Scaligeri. Do not forget to walk along the Passeggiata Panoramica, Viale delle Fontanelle and Viale  delle Roses.      

On  foot, by bike or by train across Parco Sigurta’  

Parco Giardino Sigurta’ can be visited  on foot, by bike or by little magic trains that drive along  the 7 km of the Itinerario degli Incanti. It is also possible  to rent some go-carts. The  park is equipped  with stalls  where  you can buy some food and drinks. Parco Giardino Sigurta’ is the ideal place for those who wish to live emotions, discover the secret meaning of beauty and the importance of imagination.

Children will also have the opportunity to meet Ta, a sweet, little squirrel  living  at the Big Oak.  

After your visit in the evening you  may have dinner on Lake Garda or in some of the evocative little medieval towns on the east side of the Lake Garda like Sirmione, Lazise, Desenzano, Salo’, Bardolino o Custoza where  you can drink their excellent wines or discover their famous wine roads. Or you may choose  to look for  a nice restaurant in Valeggio  sul Mincio or Borghetto,  a gorgeous little medieval town dating back to the 15th century and built around some old  water mills on the river Mincio.  

Another  nice place  to  see is Castellaro Laghusello,  a charming walled old  village.  We recommend  Tortellini di Valeggio  and  a glass  of  Bardolino red wine or Custoza white  wine.

At the Parco Sigurta’ it is also possible  to make excursions on horses, horse riding or rent bikes.
